Coxbury Farm
Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire
When planting at Coxbury Farm we used 12 species, and no shrubs. These 6 tall trees are Common Alder, Grey Alder, Aspen, Black Poplar, Hornbeam, Scots Pine, and 6 intermediate size trees, Bird Cherry, Rowan, Silver Birch, Field Maple, Crab Apple, Goat Willow. The 12 species are equal numbers and each species will constitute approx 8.5% of the planting mix.
Trees were planted as bare rooted 40-60cm whips and were protected with 1.2m tree tubes and stakes in clusters of the same species, randomly spaced. Shrubs protected with 75cm shrub guards and stakes. Random gaps were left to provide open areas in the woodland.
